If you wish to run the Windows version on your Mac, you can install a windows emulator or Virtual Machine such as Parallels Desktop, Play On Mac, VirtualBox, or VMWare Fusion, then run "The Uncorked Cellar for Windows" on your Mac.

If you save your cellar as a web cellar, you can view it on any computer via your web browser

Links to Emulators or Virtual Machines

Parallels Desktop  www.parallels.com
Play on Mac www.playonmac.com
Virtual Box www.virtualbox.org

  • Apple also support running windows applications with their Mac OSX Leopard or later via Boot Camp which lets you run Windows natively — as if your Mac were a PC. If you want to run OS X and Windows side by side, you can purchase Parallels Desktop or VMware Fusion.

Notes on specific emulators or Virtual Machines

  • Parallels Desktop
    • RECOMMENDED: We found this installed and ran the easist of all - installation of Windows into the virtual machine worked without any issues and and all windows programs we tried ran just as fast as they do on a PC - including The Uncorked Cellar.
We use Parallels Desktop for Mac to test The Uncorked Cellar under multiple versions of OSX on our Mac
  • Play-On-Mac
    • Just to let you know that it (The Uncorked Cellar) runs seamlessly on the latest version of Play On Mac. Matthew Day (Australia)
    • (We found it runs, but is quite slow)
  • VMWare Fusion
    • It works just fine except that I can't get Uncorked reports to print; the printer starts then stops. My workaround was to install a pdf printer driver in Windows, print the pdf version in Windows and then move the pdf file to my Mac desktop, then print the Mac pdf file; that method works fine. I also have no problem creating a csv file, moving it to my Mac desktop and opening it in Excel. (Dave)
  • VNC
    • VNC really is a nice way to access a dedicated cellar PC remotely and for mainly Mac households it's an inexpensive entry point. As I mentioned a dedicated netbook - especially one that's really stripped down like mine is has more than enough power. Knowing it was going to have a dedicated task, I pulled out as many services, DLLs, ... as possible to keep the windows overhead low. All I have on the device is Uncorked, Firefox, UltraVNC, a free anti-virus (the only thing that slows up the netbook) and iTunes (in case I need some music in the cellar). See picture of my cellar here.. Mark Fabbi (Ontario, Canada)

17 (a)..... Is an iPhone or iPad version available?
A. Unfortunately Apple will only allow us to publish a free app on their appstore if THEY sell the corresponding desktop program for The Uncorked Cellar - AND TAKE THEIR 30%

We refuse to increase our prices by 30%, so ipad access is via our web app - you can log on at www.iUncork.com with your mobile device such as an iPad, iPhone or Android device. This allows you to manage your web cellar completely from your iPad - or any mobile device. See www.uncork.biz/showme-mobile.aspx for some screenshots of this on an iPhone.

18. Is The Uncorked Cellar compatible with the latest version of Windows or MacOS?
A. Yes

20. Can I use a Dymo label printer?
A. We do not provide specific support for Dymo label printers at this time. In general, we find that labels produced by these types of printers are too easily damaged thus canceling the benefit of being able to print one label at a time. The printable labels and tags we provide (see https://www.uncork.biz/order_tags.aspx) can be printed using any standard printer.

22. How do I recharge my Bluetooth Wireless Barcode Scanner?
A. Model BT-4500 (the model number is located near the trigger)

  1. Plug the USB power cable into the DC Jack at the base of the scanner.
  2. Wait until the LED indicator on top of the scanner flashes red.
  3. Press and hold the trigger until the LED indicator flashes green.
    • Charging is in progress while the LED flashes green
    • A full recharge takes about four hours
    • Charging is complete when the LED turns steady green
  4. . View a video here showing all of the steps to recharge the Bluetooth Wireless Bar Code Scanner model BT-4500

Model BT-3805-U or BT-4505-U (the model number is located near the trigger)
  1. Plug the USB power cable into the DC Jack at the base of the scanner.
  2. Wait until the LED indicator on top of the scanner flashes green.
    • Charging is in progress while the LED flashes green
    • A full recharge takes about four hours
    • Charging is complete when the LED turns steady green

23. How do I check if my Bluetooth Wireless Barcode Scanner is operating correctly
A.The easiest way to check that your scanner reads any barcode is to open up Word (or an email) and click where you would normally start typing.

Then, scan a barcode and you should see a series of numbers displayed.

Basic things to check if you do not see any numbers

  1. Your scanner is fully charged (see above)
  2. Your bluetooth adapter is plugged in. It's LED should flash until you turn your scanner on, then change to steady ON.
  3. Your scanner is on (Press and hold the trigger for about 5 seconds - until you hear a series of ascending beeps. The LED on top will initially start flashing, then change to steady when it communicates with the bluetooth adapter. Similarly, the LED on the bluetooth adapter will flash until you turn the scanner on, then it will stay on steady.)
  4. When you scan a barcode, the scanner should give TWO beeps.
If it gives a series of beeps more than two beeps, this means it is in batch mode and is storing the number rather than transmitting to the PC
  5. Try scanning a barcode on several different items with barcode OTHER than the tag - just in case the problem is with the particular barcode you are scanning.
If you still get no response please contact support@uncork.biz

24. I really need to be able to manage my cellar from two or three computers (Cellar notebook, home office, work office) when you buy a full version of the software...how many computers may you load it on?
A. For non commercial use, we license the software to you not your computer - so provided it is you operating the software for wines in your home cellar, only one license is required

26. What is the best way to migrate to a new computer?
A. Download and install the normal version of software from www.uncork.biz/download.aspx.
If you have already installed the latest version, make sure you have the latest build by using the menu command 'Help, Check web for updated version'.
To migrate your cellar, please see the help under "How do I... Copy my cellar to a new computer... "

27. What Wine Critic Ratings are included in the Consensus Graphs?
A. The Consensus Graph available for Global Wine Stocks subscribers includes collated ratings from the following wine critics

28. I have just updated and can only see about 10 wines listed per country - all obviously wrong
A. Some versions of Windows lock data files and prevent the installation program from updating them. If this occurs on your system you should

  • Backup your cellar
  • Make a note of where your cellar is stored (See the menu command "Help, Contents, The Uncorked Cellar, Default Folders")
  • Make a note of your registration details (See the menu command "Register")
  • Uninstall the program,
  • Download then re-install
  • You may need to re-enter your registration details, and browse to find your existing cellar

29. Does the web cellar get updated when I make changes to the originating cellar?
A. Any changes you make to your WEB cellar on your pc (ie: a cellar name starting with "www.") will be reflected on the cellar you access via your iPad. However, any cellar you have stored LOCALLY (ie: no "www. in the cellar name) is a completely different cellar - as would different word documents with different names.

30. How do I view my web cellar on my iPad or iPhone ?
A. Log in directly www.iUncork.com by browsing directly via safari on your iPhone or iPad. Note that you must have The Uncorked Cellar application closed on your desktop computer - it logs in on your behalf so it can read and save your web cellar.

You can create a shortcut to The Uncorked Cellar on your iPad or iPad's home screen.

  • Launch the Safari browser and navigate to www.iUncork.com.
  • Tap the Share button on the browser’s toolbar - that’s the rectangle with an arrow pointing upward. It’s on the bar at the top of the screen on an iPad, and on the bar at the bottom of the screen on an iPhone or iPod Touch.
  • Tap the Add to Home Screen icon in the Share menu.
  • You will be prompted to name the shortcut before tapping the Add button.

  • When you tap the newly added icon, it will open The Uncorked Cellar web app in Safari and allow you to log in to view your cellar or look up any wine in our wine database.

31. How do I view my web cellar on my Android Phone or Tablet?
A. Log in directly www.iUncork.com by browsing directly via Chrome on your Android Phone or Tablet. Note that you must have The Uncorked Cellar application closed on your desktop computer - it logs in on your behalf so it can read and save your web cellar.

  • Launch Chrome for Android and navigate to www.iUncork.com.
  • Tap the menu button and tap Add to homescreen.
  • You will be able to enter a name for the shortcut and then Chrome will add it to your home screen.

  • Chrome for Android loads The Uncorked Cellar as a “web app” when you tap the icon, so it will get its own entry in the app switcher and won’t have any browser interface getting in the way.
  • Other popular Android browsers also offer this feature. For example, Firefox for Android can do this if you tap the menu button, tap the Page option, and tap Add to Home Screen.

32. Osx reports "uncork quit unexpectedly" when I try to open The Uncorked Cellar
A. These are typically caused by another app blocking The Uncorked Cellar from accessing the internet, a configuration setting, user change or Hardware change.
