What others have said aboutThe Uncork series of Wine Guides.
- "Uncork Vintage Editions.
What a delight to open a wine reference book and to find no adjectives or descriptions. Instead we are treated to a comprehensive summary of Australian wines, clearly presented and allowing any wine to be easily found and judged against its peers.
Wines are listed in alphabetical order and displayed by Vintage, Merit (not the ratings of a critic, but the winemaker's merit of this wine amongst other vintages of the same wine and amongst other wines from the same winery), Peak (being the winemaker's best estimate as to when each wine will be at its best) and Value (the wines average value at cellar door or retail). Winery web sites are listed along with physical addresses.
The Peak suggestions are invaluable for those interested in holding wine until it reaches its optimum, however we need to be aware of what conditions we are subjecting our stored wines to. The winemaker's merit and value comments make for interesting comparisons and provide a good insight into which wine to purchase.
As the editor, Brian Allen, points out - tasting notes and information on wineries and their wines are easily sourced from web sites. In most instances the same information is available within the cellar management program, The Uncorked Cellar.
They make ideal reference books for every consumer and cellarer of Australian or American wine."
